Transmission System Structure A52-W – Beginning of the Project
This is the stereophonic counterpart to the transmission system structure A52-E for determining the physical origin of the telluric signals. The distance between structures is approximately 200 miles.
The major effort was digging guy a guy anchor hole five feet deep in the rock to replace a dead end guy on a telephone cable facility. Also, the effort was made to gather up approximately five miles of abandoned open mile line to use in constructing the new transmission structures. Much more is still needed and no availability has been found yet.
DBR Line Main Repeater Office
This is a continuation of the previous DBR photo gallery. This facility amplified the signal and regulated the gain of the auxillary repeaters along the line. Repeater spacing 50 miles. Shown is the O Carrier terminal facility equipment from inside the building shown.
Historic DBR Carrier Telephone Line
World War 2 emergency defense backup route long distance communication system of J Carrier variety. Later converted to O Carrier for civilian use. Was specifically constructed as an inland major communications link in the event that the West Coast was attacked by the Japanese. It started in Washington state and ended in Los Angeles, California. Only 15 miles left standing shown in the photographs. Line is in very bad shape and ultimately will have to be removed.
Primary Toll & Autovon Switching Center Joint Bell Telephone & USAF North American Air Defense Installation Nucelar Attack Resistant
Major communications tie for military and civilian communications. Also contained Strategic Air Command control consoles to be used in the event of nuclear combat. Presently, the operation is abandoned.
Bell Telephone Outside Plant TD2 Microwave Antenae
Historic obsolete multiplex microwave communication system for Bell Telephone built by Western Electric. Carried television broadcasts, multi-channel long distance telephone message circuits, military autovon circuits. Transcontinental system repeater spacing 30 miles. Total system capacity 10,500 telephone channels.
Bell Telephone Switching Systems and Related Carrier Facilities
This is the last operating Bell Telephone switching equipment of all generations up to the mid 1960’s.
